Stephen has been extremely busy through 2008 traveling and developing new sculpting styles and experimenting with new methods. The following works have been done over the past year. The second row is of a sculpture called

'Lines'. It was inspired by the trip to Italy.

It is one solid piece of granite made to look

like several bonded together. Stephen

wanted the stone to look lighter in weight,

like it was floating, creating a crystal like

structure, from a crystaline matrix, of granite.

An irony to nature... Medium - granite

Dimensions-  55cm x  45 cm x 45 cm

The 3rd row is another piece that Stephen

created while in Italy. Is called 'Just an old

shoe'. It was created using a method called

the point system. It is was carved from Carrara

whilte marble and measures 30cm x 20cm x

25cm. Stephen wanted to show that even an

old shoe, out dated and out of style, could be

used to create a think of beauty. This was

done entirely by hand without the benefit of

any power tools.

The last row is of a sculpture called 'Seduced by Stone'.

This piece is about the stone. Stephen dug up this

stone in northwestern Alberta, and was immediately

consumed with it. It weighed 500 lbs to start and it

was hauled in Stephen's truck for 2 months. He

thought long and hard about how to use this rare find.

How it could only be used once so it had to be good.

So with no idea what it was to become, he just started

working the stone. She slowly began to reveal herself.

Seducing slowly, teasing, leaving wanting more....

Stpehen wanted to create the idea of cloth flowing off her

Exposing herself in a slow seduction. Just as stone

sculpting is a slow seduction of art....
