Brazillian Flag

Day Two & Three

Back to Brazil Main Page

November 1

I am soooo sore
Well today was the first day of sculpting, and my first lessons on cutting
marble.
It is different from what I have dined on in the past, mostly in Granite, and
some limestone.
Well first picture is what I had done by noon.
not a lot....

There is so much to learn and see here, And the support and experience I
receive from my peers, is amazing.

the next picture is me of the support staff, they work hard all day trying g
to set up before us, and clean up after us.
they are good hard workers, willing to help with anything, and always a
glorious smile.
Special thanks Guys.

Next some actions shots of me just to prove I am actually working here.
Sculpting my Flag Off.
the one on my back....
Gotta show I am canadian

Bus tours of school children come in and out observing the fine talents of
amazing artist, like me, for example...
And at last my first day as done as the sun set a rose hue to my sculpture,
this is my days work....
I think I am going to have one huge mountain of talc powder when I am done.

Here is a look at the progress of some of the other sculptors
seen in order,

work From David

Evrim Kilic, from Turkey, as she works

Elias Naman, Italy, Showing me how to cut marble the old way, the real way.
Elais, has been an Incredible help today.
Seems he checks up on me to make sure I am getting this.

Next Lillya Pobornikova from Bulgaria.

She wants to go to the beach soon as she is done so seems at 730 PM she
still does not want to quit working. So we have to wait for her so we can
finally go eat.
OK I thought I worked hard....

Well that is all for today.
We had a chance to view someone of the beaches on the day we arrived, and
looking how today went, It may be a while before I feel that white sand
between my toes....
Right now it is just white dust, clogging my nose.......

November 2

Today was the Holiday for the Day of The dead.
The holiday ways beautiful and sunny and hundreds of people came and viewed the Sculptors in action, with friendly smile, and compliments from all.

well I bought some tight gloves in Canada, now my hands are so swollen I
cannot put them on.
I got  huge ass blood blister under my callous, and some unknown bug bite on
my wrist.

Started work at 6 am a few hours ahead of the others, worried of falling
behind.
but I got a lot done today. the pictures will not show it, the view of first
pic is lunch time status,
not much more than the day before.
But looks are deceiving, the entire afternoon was spent drilling countless
hole.

There is only on jack hammer so when my turn came up, I had to make it
count.
see I actually am working.

the pictures are of my strategic, Or so I think, layout of precuts and drill holes tomorrow afternoon I plan to shim and split along the dotted lines.
some of the laborers, do not believe it will work.
so tomorrow will be the test.

This is Fernando Alvarez, of Spain.  His tools did not arrive, and were
lost, France air says they will be here tomorrow, but they have been saying
that for 4 days now.
So he waits to start
well guess I do not have it that bad....

Here I am standing on Armi...

well we both took a beating today, not sure who won....
actually it is not win or loose, but how we can unite together.

See there is snow here.....
I produce that much talc in one day....
even more gets caked into my hair and clothes by days end.

Last picture Is Salomon Saul, from Israel, An interesting Artist, his wisdom
and sense of humor are always appreciated.
notice he was smart enough to choose the lightest sculpture.

Did I mention That Armi weighed in at 26 metric tones....
we are both on the quick lean diet.

well
tomorrow is the big split...
so chao!
